GREEN PAVEMENTS 2020 PORTUGAL

COST EFFECTIVE PAVEMENTS TODAY

FOR A SUSTAINABLE TOMORROW

Location: LNEC, Lisbon, Portugal

POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

DUE TO THE COVID-19 CRISIS

Given the United Nations global climate change position expressed by Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres and China’s position expressed by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the "Belt and Road" Summit Forum “We should adhere to the concept of openness, promote green infrastructure construction, green investment, green finance,   to

protect the common home we depend on”, is now incumbent upon each industry to do the best they can to reduce the carbon footprint in their respective sectors. Construction and maintenance strategies for high, medium, and low volume roads can be adjusted and improved towards meeting this goal. Additionally, new and old paving strategies and materials must now be examined under this new light.

The entire transportation corridor needs to reassess its priorities and address directly how to implement its best practices to fulfill the goals expressed in concert with United Nations and noted by China’s example.  Such practices, for instance, could help in reducing CO2 emissions, thereby supporting energy conservation or energy generation.

The cost-effective use of recycled crumb rubbers in mixes and pavements will be examined together with efforts from agencies and practitioners towards demonstrating that these, as well as other products/practices can indeed become a mainstream paving component.

The conference will feature agency representatives, practitioners, and researchers each sharing their experiences and views on how to build cost-effective and sustainable pavements and incorporate the associated best practices in the transportation corridor in such a manner so as to have a greener and more sustainable tomorrow.
